Our lawyers have a broad range of legal experience, ranging from recent graduates to very senior counsel with almost 40 years experience.  We offer a casual, open-door working environment, where students are encouraged to ask questions.

We hire 2 articling students each year, and during that year the students have the opportunity to gain experience working in all practice areas, and are encouraged to seek out further work within a certain discipline if they find one of particular interest.  The litigation practice covers a broad range of specialties including personal injury, estate, construction, insolvency and, wrongful dismissal, and general commercial litigation.  The commercial area includes transactions of every type, including incorporations, shareholder transactions, commercial agreements of varying types, secured transactions, real estate and wills.  

We set up a formal rotation by practice area and our students are provided with opportunities in both the litigation and commercial law areas.  In the litigation area, the students are given opportunities to attend discoveries, to appear in Small Claims Court, and to appear in the Superior Court of Justice on Motions and with senior counsel on pre-trials, trials and appeals.  In the commercial area, the students will be given exposure to all areas including the drafting of commercial agreements, shareholder memoranda, real estate transactions, wills, secured transactions, and debt collection.  Our students are given many assignments to draft pleadings and to prepare research memorandums, while utilizing our library or the on-line search services Quicklaw and eCarswell. 

Our students have many chances to meet and deal directly with clients on a regular basis.  At Brown Beattie O'Donovan LLP you do not spend your articling year in the back room, but are given the opportunity to really experience the practice of law.
